Question regarding sound systems

I feel like going with the Samsung system (the Makro link), as I think the Samsung 2494HS screen cannot output more than stereo through the green headphone jack. That's why I am looking for something with optical (as the Xbox has an optical port, and it would work well).

Neither can the Logitech CDaddy posted, which is why I pointed you in the direction of the Samsungs in the first place.

The Logitech is a PC-only 5.1 system, and will not give you Digital 5.1 from a console, but bullshit stereo instead.

Check your options though, because for a wee bit more you can maybe pick up a bigger and better Samsung system with HDMI, which means you won't need the Optical input, as both your audio and video will go over HDMI.

Yup that one has HDMI Audio Return Channel, so you can hook your Xbox up to it, and get audio and everything over HDMI.

I would like to have HDMI inputs, but to be honest I don't need it. The way I would like to do it is as follows: Video from Xbox via HDMI to my screen, with Audio from the Xbox via optical to a home theatre/sound system.

I have no need for any DVD players (although I don't mind if I get one with), so I don't need to have any kind of video or sound going from the DVD player to the screen.

As for getting bigger and better: I'm used to using a crappy Dixon stereo sound system which cost R699 or something like that, so any kind of sound upgrade is worth it to me. Also, I unfortunately can't stretch my budget that far (I'm still a scholar afterall).

Now a different question, which I think I know the answer to, but here goes anyway:
Will a home theatre system work without having anywhere to output video to? (My feeling is yes)

Well rather be future proof by spending a bit more now, than having to buy everything again a year or two from now.

And yes, it should work perfectly fine without having any video output. I use my PC on my Onkyo amp for sound, without any video.

Can I buy a PC with an Graphics card with HDMI out and then just use that into the Onkyo amp too. I want that for playing Blue Ray movies especially as I buy imports from AnimeWorx and they are another region. So I was thinking that I can play them on a PC set to region free.

Sorry CDaddy, I have no idea about PC HDMI stuff.

Not even sure if you get video cards that pass audio information through.

The only PC's I've used with HDMI were all-in-one pre built jobs.
